Thirty years ago such big decisions would be discussed in private by all political leaders and party interest should be parked on the sidelines.
We also wonder whether th this decision was discussed:
- in cabinet and approved by the coalition partners. Is it reasonable to suggest this is standard procedure?
- In private with representatives from the CBI, the FSB, the Institute of Directors and the British Chambers of Commerce.
The analysis this morning are mixed and we are genuinely concerned that Mr Cameron's decision may not solve the longer term problems facing the British economy.
The Independent (8th December 2011) commented as follows:
Euro sceptics are united by xenophobic little Englandism masquerading as high principle of national sovereignty
George Orwell (The Times, 29/9/2011) wrote:
The English are not intellectual. They have a horror of abstract thought; they feel no need for any phylosophy or systemic “world view”!
