From:
Would it surprise you to learn that I cleared out 577 emails, of which 35 were in my spam box this morning. It is becoming a flaming nuisance, for the following reasons:
- The company sending out newsletter are not aware and do not ask or care why the lists they buy include my email address
- The list manager in potentially in breach, unless he clearly states why I am receiving the email
- The list manager and his/her client fail the acid test stipulated by the Data Protection Commissioner, unless I can view my record online, change it and or cancel the newletter I signed up for.
More often than not, I cannot cancel the newletter, and the only option is to notify SPAM and delete
Should I sent an angry letter asking them to stop? Waste of time, if you ask me.
One more thing - Responsible emailing
This morning I got a nuisance mass email via a very reputable online Social Media Service Provider (SMSP). Don't ask me why the culprit claims to send out 4600 emails, when his followers are approx 250 and I did not have the time to check the total number of his/her Twitter followers.
My advise to you is: make sure you are aware of your responsility in terms of the Data Protection Act. If you are not and you break the laws and principles relating to Data Protection Act 1988 and subsequent amendments, you yourself or your business/employer are vulnerable to the long arm of the law and/or any legal action taken against you.
